Sense Antique Glasses Gallery

Unique Atmosphere and Unparalleled Exhibits

The Sense Antique Glasses Gallery, designed by Chih-Yuan Hung, offers a unique and captivating experience for visitors. With its darkened spaces and low reflection, this gallery creates an atmosphere that allows exhibits to display not only their surface but also their intricate micro details. This innovative approach sets it apart from traditional art galleries, making it a must-visit destination for art and antique enthusiasts.

Within the spatial structures of the Sense Antique Glasses Gallery, two oblique walls designed with reflective and twisted techniques reminiscent of optical glasses create a mesmerizing effect. These walls divide the main room into three distinctive zones, guiding viewers through a narrow trapezoid-shaped environment. The customized light, made from 498 hand-made optical glass pieces, illuminates the space, adding to the enchanting ambiance.

As visitors navigate through the narrow space, their attention is drawn to the ascending ceiling, which leads them into the main atrium. Here, an arched entrance unveils a lighted oval-shaped transparent glass table, showcasing the gallery's main exhibits. This table, made entirely of glass, including its structure and façade, creates a low-lighted environment that allows the exhibits to take center stage.

The Sense Antique Glasses Gallery is characterized by an underlying attention to detail. It offers a collection room that is both artistic and secretive, luxurious yet ordinary, and transparent yet clear. The design aims to create a space that isolates visitors from the outside world, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the exhibits.

The realization of this design involved the use of low-reflection materials to create a dark room. The gallery incorporates industrial production technology used in antique glasses, wood and metal processing, glass, and the paper industry. With its spacious dimensions and various zones, including big boxes and black boxes for multi-function performances, conventions, and exhibitions, the Sense Antique Glasses Gallery offers a versatile and immersive experience for visitors.

The project, led by Chih-Yuan Hung and his team members Kuan-Yi Tai and Lora Lai, started in April 2018 in Taiwan and was completed in October 2018. Since then, it has been exhibited to great acclaim.

The Sense Antique Glasses Gallery has received numerous accolades, including the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes the gallery's outstanding creativity and ingenious design, which authentically showcases the exhibits and enhances the overall visitor experience. The Sense Antique Glasses Gallery truly exemplifies the fusion of art, science, design, and technology, making it a remarkable addition to the world of lifestyle and design.
